Registering a Dog in South Korea: Where to Start

반려견 동물등록과 변경신고 안내

Dog registration links an eligible dog with their owner’s contact information. In South Korea, the official guidance covers companion dogs aged two months and older within the registration rules. Registration is separate from a veterinary vaccination record and does not automatically keep your contact details current.

Prepare for registration

Check the current instructions with your city or district office or an authorized registration provider, often a participating veterinary clinic. Ask which identification method, documents and fees apply. Bring accurate owner details and any existing identification or registration records so you do not create an unnecessary duplicate.

After processing, check the registered number, owner information and contact details. Keep a copy of the certificate and ask how to correct an error.

Report changes through the appropriate route

A move, changed contact information, ownership transfer, loss, recovery or death may require an update. The available online route and required evidence depend on the change. Do not assume that editing a clinic’s customer record also updates the national registration.

For a lost dog, act promptly and ask the local authority about reporting requirements while also arranging a practical search. A microchip identifies the dog when scanned; it is not a GPS tracker.
